What is ERH?

The Equity Research Hub is a data-driven initiative focused on the design, delivery, and dissemination of research on equity in global health. Utilizing data to drive solution innovation, we aim to set the evidence-driven agenda for meaningful change in global health.

Through our multiplatform dissemination model, we aim to collaborate with a spectrum of individuals and organizations to advance equity in global health research. We are passionate about empowering others to realize their research commitment to global health equity. This, after all, is how we began.

We want to provide a platform for research on global health issues in the local setting. Global as a holistic scope, universal access, geographically unlimited, and a coalition of knowledge from multiple disciplines to deliver health and health research.

Why “Equity Research Hub”?

One of the most widely shared definitions is the one proposed by the World Health Organization defines equity as “the absence of avoidable, unfair, or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically or by other means of stratification.” At the Equity Research Hub, we adhere to this definition and believe that to ensure equity we have to actively work to overcome structural disparities and barriers, which often have long-standing historical roots.

A “hub” is “the central or main part of something where there is most activity”. As the Equity Research Hub, we strive to be at the core of dialogues concerning health equity and equitable work.

Why research for equity in global health?

Inequities are increasingly discussed in the global health sphere, but we see a large gap in data detailing these inequities, their impact, and how solutions can help overbridge such disparities. We hope to produce data that can further show the extent and impact of current inequities and guide the development of evidence-based solutions for equity. To achieve this, the Equity Research Hub will:

Conduct robust research to further understand existing inequities in different domains of global health, with a focus on processes.

Partner with global and local collaborators to design contextually-relevant research at the national, regional, and global levels to ensure fair and collaborative research partnerships. All partners should be actively involved from the initiation of a project to its’ completion. We are firmly opposed to tokenistic engagement or gifting authorship.

Offer research capacity-building activities (abstract and/or manuscript writing, grant writing, project planning, data collection, data analysis) and research mentorship (abstract mentoring, manuscript mentoring, visual abstract mentoring, presentation mentoring, grant mentoring), to support global health researchers, with a primary focus on empowering researchers with limited access to mentorship and learning opportunities, e.g. researchers from low- and middle-income countries.
